Five Things I Learned on my not-so-good Summer Vacation

Lessons I learned on my vacation l learned last year, when we were disappointed by several things that happened. Once I had time to reflect and look at my pictures, I was grateful for the nice things that did happen. It was not a vacation for the memory book, by any means, but now I’ll remember some things for the next time I plan my vacation.

Number 1: Always research the place you’re going to go to on vacation, no matter how many good things you have heard about it from others. Lesson: Only you know exactly what you like and don’t like.

Number 2: Don’t let your concern about money ruin the fun. Lesson: If you are already there, it’s too late for worrying.

Number 3: If you are annoyed by something at the Hotel, or Air B&B, or wherever you are staying, make the best of it. Lesson: Don’t forget to appreciate your home when you get back.

Number 4: Don’t assume that since you’re on vacation, you won’t get sick, miss a flight, have something stolen, or lose your hotel door key. Lesson: These can happen to anyone, so write down all the good things you remember about your trip and be grateful for those things.

Number 5: If you have house plants you love, don’t assume the person you asked to water them, loves them also. Or the person you asked to feed your cat, loves cats as much as you do. etc.. Lesson: Your plants might die while you are gone, and your cat might get just enough to survive.(LOL)

Things to appreciate when your vacation is not going as planned:

Finding people that are dedicated to a good cause.

Really good ice cream on a hot night.

Pretty butterflies floating by.

Finding an empty parking spot when everywhere else is taken.

Floating on your back, looking up at the blue sky, when you know others sink.(LOL)

Beautiful scenery that you don’t usually see.

Things you can choose to believe or choose not to believe:

Just how good you have it, or just how good you don’t have it.

Generally people are crazy, or generally people are kind.

You need a lot of money for vacation, or you can still have fun without a lot of money.

A sign on a beach that says, no swimming and there is the ocean in the background.
