Escape From Darkness

A dark, cold and lonely prison,

with a limited view

of a distant tree

on a distant hill.

I Transport myself

to the highest branch,

where I can climb down

from my precarious position,

I Unattach myself

from the branches

that pull at my clothing

and claw at my skin.

I Lighten the

burden from my shoulders,

allowing myself to breathe deeper,

to be further from jeopardy,

further from the pain.

I Succeed at

climbing out of

the blackest shadows,

into the warmth of sunlight.

I Escape from

the prison that was my home,

down to solid ground,

where I can stand

on my deliberated decision

to be FREE.

Silhouetted large tree with sprawling branches against a soft, hazy background of hills.
