An Analogy

Children are like seeds. They start out small and grow bigger. They both need the proper nourishment to grow. A seed needs sun, water, and the proper soil to grow into a healthy, beautiful flower. A child needs the proper love, care, protection and respect to grow into a healthy, beautiful, strong adult.

If a seed does not get enough water, it will dry out and not grow strong. If it does not get adequate sun, it will die. If the soil does not have the proper nutrients, the flower may not blossom. If a child does not get the sufficient nutrients they will become weak. If they do not get the proper protection they could be harmed or die. Without enough love they will not blossom into a self confident, emotionally healthy person.

A child can be fragile like a seed. If handled roughly a seed can be damaged, like a child’s self esteem can be damaged if handled harshly. With the proper care it can be an amazing process to watch a child grow into a strong adult, like watching a seed sprout and grow into a beautiful flower. Children can bring beauty and delight into your life, like a bouquet of flowers does to your room.

This post is a beautiful analogy of how similar children and seeds are. It shows how both require proper nourishment to grow strong and beautiful. I completely agree with it. My question is – What are some ways we can provide proper love, care and protection while respecting a child’s individuality and promoting their independence?
